What to expect out of surgery hours
Emergency appointments are rarely needed if you have carefully followed the advice given verbally and in writing to you on how best to look after your teeth and braces on the day your braces were fitted by your orthodontist.
True emergencies are very uncommon and mean severe, acute pain and discomfort is being experienced if, for example:
- An injury to the mouth or jaws has been sustained
- A cemented appliance has partially dislodged and you are unable to remove it, (i.e. rapid palatal expansion appliance, quadhelix appliance, transpalatal or lingual arches)
- Your headgear has become stuck
If this has happened to your son or daughter outside office hours, over the weekend or a holiday period, and you are an NHS patient, please call the emergency dental advice line provided by Merton and Sutton PCT on 0845 46 47.
If this has happened to you, your son or daughter and you are being treated under PRIVATE contract, please call the practice on 020 8944 0180 for the emergency number [this changes every week] where you can leave a short message and the orthodontist on call will get back to you.
