Immediate self-help measures
- If you have a loose bracket(s) or archwire(s) which have become distorted because you have eaten something you shouldn’t, dry the bracket or archwire end with a tissue and place a ‘pea sized’ amount of dental wax straight over it, as often as required. This will tide you over until you can schedule an emergency appointment.
- If you have broken your removable brace(s) – including functional appliances or retainers – in such a way that they are still wearable without discomfort, please continue to wear them as instructed until your emergency appointment, when new impressions will be taken for repair (allow 1–2 weeks). Please remember to bring with you the original casts (models) your braces were made on (if you were given them).
- If you have lost your appliance or it is beyond repair, please book an emergency appointment for new impressions so we can have a new one made (usually 2 weeks).
- If you have lost your removable or fixed retainer(s), your teeth may move a little or a lot depending on when you mislaid them and how long you have been without them. Please book an emergency appointment for impressions so we can replace it/them (usually 1 week).
