Frequently asked questions
Will treatment be uncomfortable?
Fitting a brace is not painful, but there may be a few days at the start of treatment when your mouth feels uncomfortable or tender. The same applies after an adjustment. Your specialist will, of course, advise you on how to deal with this.
Will I have to have teeth taken out?
Only if absolutely necessary, depending on how crowded your teeth are and on the shape of your jaws. Your specialist will probably want to take X-rays and impressions (moulds of your teeth) before discussing this with you. Advances in treatment, however, mean that extractions are carried out far less frequently than in the past.
How long will treatment take?
Every case is unique and it can be very difficult to estimate actual treatment times accurately. However, your specialist will give you an idea of what to expect before you start.
