FAQs for adults
Aren’t I too old for braces?
Absolutely not! Many things that are possible in adolescents are equally possible in adults. The main difference is that adults are not growing, so the natural growth of the jaws can’t be harnessed to help correct certain bite problems. A consultation with one of our specialists will establish what treatment is right for you.
How much do braces cost?
Every new patient undergoes a comprehensive consultation, after which you will receive a detailed treatment plan and quotation, guaranteed for the duration of your treatment. If you decide to progress with the treatment, the cost of the consultation will be deducted from your quotation.
Can’t a lot be done without braces these days?
Some people choose to have crowns or have veneers fitted to the front surface of their teeth to mask irregularities. However, there can be significant drawbacks:
- The preparation of the teeth is, to a greater or lesser extent, a destructive and irreversible process
- Crowns or veneers can’t be expected to last indefinitely and the need for replacements over the years should be borne in mind
- There are definite limits to the amount of irregularity which can be tackled successfully in this way. Veneers can be become excessively thick
- There may be adverse effects on the underlying gum tissues over the years from having the edges of crowns or veneers close by
