FAQs for teenagers
What will happen on my first visit?
Your specialist will examine your mouth and may take X-rays and/or photographs. They will then discuss treatment options and the best time to start treatment. Braces are not fitted at the first appointment.
How often will I need an appointment?
You’ll usually have appointments every 4-10 weeks, depending on your type of brace and stage of treatment. It’s not a good idea to start treatment if you know you won’t be able to keep regular appointments.
Can I have “colours”?
“Colours” are tiny elastic rings used to hold the wires into the brackets on your teeth. They come in many different colours, which means you can personalise your brace! They are not suitable for all types of brackets.
Should I have check-ups with my own dentist during orthodontic treatment?
Absolutely – your orthodontist only looks after your braces. Your teeth are actually at greater risk during orthodontic treatment, so it’s very important that you see your own dentist regularly.
